Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA), later renamed as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), is established to lead biomedical research in the country.
RMRC Established
Regional Medical Research Centre officially established in Port Blair on April 1st to address the unique health challenges of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Car Nicobar Expansion

Isolated and identified a new serovar of Leptospira, officially named serovar Portblairi, belonging to the newly identified serogroup Sehgali, advancing global understanding of the pathogen.
Tsunami Response

H1N1 Laboratory

Shompen Health Survey
Conducted an extensive health and nutritional survey of the indigenous Shompens of Great Nicobar, continuing the Centre's core mandate of protecting primitive tribes.

Hosted the World Congress on Leptospirosis in collaboration with WHO, and launched the Malaria Elimination Research Alliance (MERA) India.
COVID-19 Response
ICMR RMRC Sri Vijaya Puram stands at the forefront of the pandemic response, ensuring rapid testing, isolation strategies, and safeguarding indigenous populations.
ICMR-INDIAB Survey
Conducted extensive Diabetes surveys across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands under the ICMR-INDIAB study alongside specialized workshops for Leptospira.
Sickle Cell Mission
Celebrated the 42nd Foundation Day and officially launched the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission in collaboration with the Directorate of Health Services.
