Central Laboratories (Sri Vijaya Puram)
Microbiology & Containment
Houses the central Leptospira Repository alongside BSL-2 and BSL-3 facilities. Equipped for the isolation and characterization of leptospires, bacterial enteropathogens, and viruses like Dengue and Chikungunya.
Immunology & Serology
Advanced serological diagnostics utilizing Microscopic Agglutination Tests (MAT), ELISAs, and rapid assays. Specialized in viral hepatitis profiling, arbovirus diagnostics, and characterization using monoclonal antibodies.
Molecular Biology & Sequencing
The genomic core equipped for DNA/RNA extraction, RT-PCR, RFLP, Western blotting , and next-generation sequencing. We drive comprehensive diagnostic virology for pathogens including SARS-CoV-2, H1N1, HFMD, RSV, and Dengue.
Medical Entomology
Dedicated to the morphological and molecular characterization of mosquito vectors and parasites. Features a functional Insectarium and utilizes molecular xenomonitoring for LF, Malaria, and Arboviruses.
Computational Facilities
The analytical backbone of the institute, providing secure data maintenance and complex statistical analysis capabilities. Features dedicated portals for online literature search and Medline research integration.
Scientific Library
A comprehensive knowledge repository supporting the institute’s research ecosystem. Curated with essential medical journals, historical epidemiology texts, and ongoing biomedical literature for academic growth.
Field Network & Specialized Units
To facilitate targeted interventions and epidemiological studies among indigenous and rural populations, specific operational nodes have been established across the archipelago.
Model Rural Health Research Unit
The MRHRU at Bambooflat serves as a vital bridge between advanced laboratory technology and rural health delivery. It is dedicated to translating research into actionable healthcare solutions for marginalized rural populations.
Car Nicobar Field Station
Strategically positioned to directly address the health problems of the Nicobarese population. This dedicated Field Practice Unit is fully equipped to execute targeted biological research and field interventions in a remote environment.
Kamorta Field Station
Positioned in the remote Nancowry group of Islands, this Field Practice Unit serves as a critical outpost. It enables deep-field epidemiological surveillance and ensures marginalized populations receive targeted, continuous assessment.
